Key people: • Prof. Christopher Brown is Professor at Faculty of Mechanical Engineering and Director of the Surface Metrology Lab and former director of the Haas Technical Education Center for CNC-Machining. He is a renowned expert in Axiomatic Design Theory in Manufacturing. His role in the project is those of an expert for Axiomatic Design for Manufacturing Systems. • Walter Towner, PhD is a Teaching Assistant Professor in the Foisie School of Business at WPI. He is a Co-Director of the WPI Center for Innovative Manufacturing Solutions. The center is funded by a grant from Mass Development with the intent of bringing technical expertise to small and medium size manufacturing companies (SME) in Massachusetts to help them grow.

The Park Center for Complex Systems at MIT was established in 2002 to conduct educational and research programs in the field of complexity and complex systems including the field of manufacturing. MIT Park Center will participate in the critical up-front system-level thinking and execution of the development process of the Industry 4.0, will investigate proper tools and develop confidence to embark on complex system concepts that will have significant future impact on our industry. Key people: • Prof. Sang-Gook Kim is a professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering. His research includes carbon nanotube assembly, Axiomatic Design, large-scale and complex systems and piezoelectric MEMS energy harvesters. He is a fellow of CIRP, fellow of ASME, overseas member of Korean National Academy of Engineering and a member of IEEE. His role in the project is those of an expert for Axiomatic Design for large-scale systems.

CMU: Chiang Mai University, Thailand Chiang Mai University (CMU) is a public research university in northern Thailand founded in 1964. It has a strong emphasis on engineering, science, agriculture, and medicine. The university was the first institution of higher education in northern Thailand. CMU is nationally recognized as one of the top four universities and one of the nine “National Research Universities”. The Department of Industrial Engineering is working in interesting research fields for this project: a) Excellence Center in Logistics and Supply Chain Management, b) Small and Medium Enterprises, c) Design and Development of Advanced Manufacturing Technology.
Key people: • Dr. Korrakot Yaibuathat is Assistant Professor and Deputy Head of the Excellence Center in Logistics and Supply Chain Management. Her role in this project is those of the main contact at CMU. • Dr. Poti Chao is a lecturer and researcher at Chiang Mai University with a particular focus on logistics and supply chain management. He has the role of operative coordinator in this project.
